Kamakura suits riders who want temples and a short coast ride on the JR line from Tokyo, and its trade-off is narrow, busy streets where an e-bike and an early start make the day easier.

Who should base here
Stay by Yuigahama to reach the Great Buddha when the gate opens and ride the coast toward Enoshima in the late light.
Kamakura keeps its temples in wooded valleys that run down to Yuigahama beach. Kotoku-in's Great Buddha sits in the open air in Hase, seven minutes on foot from the Enoden's Hase Station. The temple keeps a cycle park for bicycles and mopeds, and the gate opens at 8:00.
Rent-a-Cycle Kamakura has hired out bikes behind the police box at the east exit of Kamakura Station since 1974. All 77 of its bikes are e-assist, a full day costs ¥2,800, and a ¥3,500 one-way plan lets you leave the bike by Enoshima Station by 17:00. The shop also holds bags too big for a locker.
The Pacific Cycling Road follows the shore past Shichirigahama. MLIT describes this stretch as about 3 km of beach from Inamuragasaki toward Enoshima, with Mt. Fuji and Izu Oshima in view on a clear day, and surf all year.
