Pacific Cycling Road Stage 2 from Kurihama to Yugawara

Stage 2 of the Pacific Cycling Road crosses Kanagawa from the Tokyo Wan Ferry at Kurihama round the Miura Peninsula and along the Shonan coast to the Shizuoka border at Yugawara, and it suits a long day out of Tokyo with a train home from almost every town. Expect town riding through Shonan, where the line follows the coastal national road past a string of beach-front cafés.

Routed over OpenStreetMap with BRouter trekking and measured against Copernicus DEM GLO-30 30 m on 2026-10-12. 7 km crosses bridges or water, where the elevation is drawn straight across. 1.6 km runs through tunnels, drawn straight through the hill.
On the road
- Start
- Kurihama port (Tokyo Wan Ferry). The ferry from Hamakanaya lands here, and Keikyu Kurihama and JR Kurihama stations sit inland of the port for anyone starting by train. The council lists the Kurihama port area as a gateway.
- Finish
- Kanagawa–Shizuoka border at Yugawara. Stage 3 carries on from here into Atami. JR Yugawara Station on the Tokaido Line is the nearest train home.
- In winter
- Yugawara's plum festival at Makuyama Park runs from early February to mid-March, and the council points riders to it at the end of this stage.
- In summer
- Start early in summer and carry water for the Miura loop.
- In typhoon
- Typhoons reach Sagami Bay in late summer and autumn. Check JMA's warnings and Tokyo Wan Ferry's notices before you plan the crossing.
Ride safely
- The Shonan coast road carries heavy town traffic. Keep left, ride single file and watch for car doors along the beach-front parking.
- The coast between Odawara and Yugawara runs under cliffs; switch lights on for any tunnel and in poor light.
- The council's map sets out the rules for the whole route: keep to the left of the carriageway, never ride two abreast, switch lights on at night and in every tunnel, and wear a helmet.
- The council's map warns that bikes go missing from racks at stops along the route, so lock yours even for a quick coffee.

Tunnels
The line runs through 12 tunnels, 1.6 km in all; the longest is 425 m.
The boat lands at Kurihama and the line heads south round the Miura Peninsula to Misaki, a fishing port known for tuna, then turns up the west shore toward Hayama and Zushi. Misakiguchi Station on the Keikyu line is listed as a gateway. Urari Marche at Misaki port sells tuna and local vegetables and rents bikes as well.
From Inamuragasaki in Kamakura the road runs along Shichirigahama toward Enoshima, and the council picks this as the view to stop for, with Enoshima and Mt. Fuji in one frame on a clear day. Past Enoshima an alternative beach path runs between Fujisawa and Chigasaki. Yanagishima Sports Park in Chigasaki is a council gateway.
West of Chigasaki the line passes Hiratsuka and Oiso, where a dedicated cycle path runs beside the Seisho Bypass, then reaches Odawara and its castle. The final stretch follows the cliffs past Manazuru to Yugawara. The council sends riders to Kogome-no-yu, the town-run hot spring with an outdoor bath, and to the plum festival at Makuyama Park from early February to mid-March.
Worth knowing
- Start at Misakiguchi on the Keikyu line if you want the Miura and Shonan coasts without the ferry.
- Odawara's fishing-port station TOTOCO is a council gateway beside the harbour, and it makes an easy lunch stop before the cliffs.
- Ride Shonan on a weekday morning when you can, and save the beach-front cafés for after.
