Things to do in Daisen
Daisen town runs from the Sea of Japan up the slopes of Mt. Daisen, and the village near the top grew round Daisen-ji, a Tendai temple that dates its founding to the Yoro era about 1,300 years ago. A stone-paved approach climbs past inns and soba shops to the temple and on to the upper hall of Ogamiyama Shrine. KOMOREBITO holds the tourist office on its ground floor, a café on the second and a small hotel above.
In winter the slopes above the village run as Daisen Mountain Resort, the new name for Daisen White Resort after the Nihon Kotsu group ended its operation in March 2026. The resort's own news gave 18 December as its planned opening.
From April to late November the tourist office rents e-MTBs and electric cross bikes for the day. Signed downhill routes run from the office to San'in Line stations on the coast, such as Daisenguchi at 23.8 km and Nakayamaguchi at 21.2 km, and Nokatari's guides lead a 17 km descent from 800 m to 300 m. Daisen soba comes dark because the husk is ground in, and the town certifies shops that serve it.
