Myohonoyu Chigira
Chigira is an eight-room inn on Route 120 in Kamata, the middle of Katashina. Its spring rises at 51 °C and flows at 150 litres a minute, cooled to about 42 °C in one indoor bath for men and one for women, with no outdoor or private bath. Day bathing stopped about 15 years ago, so the baths are for guests only.
For skiers it has a drying room for skis and boards, and the inn links Marunuma Kogen and Oguna Hotaka among the ski areas nearby. Rooms have a wooden floor area and a raised tatami area with futons laid before you arrive. Every room allows smoking, and the inn says some smell can linger.
