Magoroku Onsen Rokuan
¥45,250 a night
Magoroku has been a hot spring since 1902, and it now trades as Rokuan under an inn licence dated January 2025. Three detached rooms have their own outdoor bath. Two more are maisonettes, and the sixth is a Japanese-Western room. Guests share a mixed outdoor bath of simple sulphur water and a mixed indoor stone bath, and there's a Nordic barrel sauna with a cold plunge.
No car reaches the door. From December to about April you park opposite Ogama Onsen and walk about 800 metres on a snowy path, which takes about 15 minutes, so wear boots that grip. Staff carry your bags from that car park or the Nyuto Onsen bus stop if you book ahead, and in summer they run a shuttle to Kyukamura.
Day visitors come from 10:00 to 15:00, closed Fridays. ¥700 buys the men's and women's indoor baths. The ¥3,000 plan opens every bath and the sauna, and the mixed areas call for a yuami-gi bathing wrap. Guests bathe in the separate baths until 23:00 and in the mixed outdoor bath and sauna until 22:00, and everything opens again from 5:00.
