Hoshi Onsen Chojukan
Chojukan has four buildings of rooms. The main building and the 1940 annex are registered tangible cultural properties, and every one of the annex's ten identical rooms looks over the Hoshi River through old Taisho-era glass. Kunzanso, built along the river in 1978, has the larger rooms, and Horyuden dates from 1988. Some main-building rooms keep their toilets down the hall.
The baths are the reason to come, and Hoshi Onsen's own page here sets out their mixed and women-only hours. Expect about a metre of snow in winter and fit studless tyres from December to March; otherwise take the town bus, which runs twice each morning and afternoon. From 16 to 17 December 2026 the inn holds a women's day for overnight guests, with every bath open to women at any hour.
