Ganiba Onsen
¥13,350 a night
Ganiba takes its name from the crabs in the nearby stream. The Ugo Kotsu Nyuto line ends at its door at the Nyuto Ganiba Onsen stop, about 50 minutes from Tazawako Station. The simple sulphur water runs clear and soft, which is rare in a valley of cloudy baths, and every tub is fed straight from the source.
The mixed outdoor bath Karako no Yu sits 50 metres from the main building among the trees, and women have it to themselves from 19:30 to 20:30. The women's outdoor bath Hinazakura turns men-only for that same hour. Indoors each side gets a cedar bath and a rock bath with a hiba-wood tub to lie back in.
Rooms are tatami, in the main building or in the annex, where they come with a toilet. Dinner brings kiritanpo hotpot and a crab hotpot in miso. The inn closed for maintenance from 10 to 14 December 2025 and took guests again from 15 December, so it runs through the winter.
