Sagawa Express takes bags at a partner hotel or terminal where your ride starts and delivers them to a partner where it ends, on the same day. The fee is ¥2,200 a piece for anything up to 160 cm in length, width and height added together and up to 30 kg, from a single bag up. Valuables, cash and fragile items are refused, and bags that are poorly packed can be turned away at the ferry.
Partner hotels in Onomichi take bags until 9:00 and hand them back after 18:00, and most serve only their own guests. Riders staying elsewhere can use the Onomichi Station rental terminal, which takes bags from 8:00 to 9:00 and returns them from 17:00. At the Imabari end the cycling terminal beside Imabari Station takes bags from 8:00 to 10:00 and releases them from 16:00. Sagawa's Imabari branch office does the same until 20:00.
Sagawa also ships bikes home from partners that handle them, cash on delivery and on its normal schedule. Its bike box costs ¥6,600 and needs ordering a week ahead, and a packed bike can measure up to 260 cm in total.
Worth knowing
- Groups book ahead through Sagawa's Imabari office for the Ehime side or its Fukuyama office for the Onomichi side.
- Onomichi Base runs a separate service called Shimanami Teburabin, and its own notice says hotel guests often hand bags to the wrong company, so tell the desk which service you booked.
- Traffic and weather can delay a delivery to the next day, so keep a change of clothes in your day bag.

How do you send skis, boards and bikes ahead in Japan?
