Rhythm Happo sits in the heart of Hakuba at 5090 Hokujo and fits boots by appointment. The larger Rhythm Wadano store at 4683-2 Hokujo adds a tuning workshop and the Rhythm and Beans café. Both let you swap between skis and snowboards as often as you like, so a powder morning on fat skis can turn into an afternoon on a board.
On the first rental day Rhythm sends a free van to Happo, Wadano, Echoland, Goryu and Sierra Resort, and you call 20 to 30 minutes ahead because it takes no advance bookings. Backcountry gear goes out only with a guided tour. Helmets cost ¥3,300 a day on top, and goggles and gloves are for sale only.
