Getting there
The Tamayu River runs from JR Tamatsukuri-Onsen Station up to the inns, and buses run direct from central Matsue.
Tamatsukuri Onsen lines the Tamayu River south of Lake Shinji, and the Izumo fudoki of 733 already records it. The river runs under about 400 cherry trees that flower from late March to mid April. Two free foot baths sit along the river and a third on Himegami Square.
Tamatsukuri means bead making, and agate magatama have come from here since ancient times. The Izumo Tamatsukuri Historical Park above the town holds the largest remains of bead workshops found in Japan.
