出雲そば処 八雲庵35°29′ N 133°03′ ESoba
Yakumo-an suits anyone touring the castle moats who wants Izumo soba in a samurai garden, and it serves only from 10:30 to 13:30.
What to order
- Warigo soba in stacked rounds with the sharp dashi poured over
- Kamo nanban, soba in a rich broth with duck and leek
Yakumo-an occupies the old residence of Oishi Gennai, the Matsue clan's fencing instructor, on Shiomi Nawate along the north moat of Matsue Castle. A 450-year-old Izumo black pine shades the garden, with bamboo on the hill behind. The soba is hand-cut, dark and firm, and the warigo dashi is made sharp so it stands up to the noodle. Kamo nanban with duck and leek is the house speciality.
