Know before you bathe
Roll your trousers up and keep feet clean before they go in.
Getting there
A 20-minute walk south of JR Ogoto-onsen Station, or off Route 161 at the Hanakaido entrance.
The Kanko Koen park pipes Ogoto's pH 9.0 alkaline water into a wide foot bath that seats 22 people, and it costs nothing. Locals come every day, so expect a chat. The park also has a lawn and benches facing the lake, a tourist desk and a shop of local goods.
The Coto Coto Cotton cafe next to the bath serves Omi beef rice bowls and Omi rice curry from 11:00, open 10:00 to 16:00. It's self-service, so you can eat between soaks. The park rents four e-assist bikes from 9:00 to 17:00 for riders 150 cm and taller.
Worth knowing
- Towels cost ¥150 at the desk, and there's a changing room.
- Coming south on Route 161, bear right at the Ogoto-ko-guchi junction. That entry is closed to southbound traffic on weekday mornings from 7:30 to 9:00.
