What to order
- Shirokuma, the original shaved ice with condensed milk and fruit
- A handy shirokuma to eat on the street from the window by the door
Mujyaki's founder Kubo Takeshi created shirokuma in 1947 and began selling it in 1949. The shaved ice comes under a house condensed milk, and raisins, cherries and green angelica sit on top so that, seen from above, the bowl looks like a polar bear's face, which gave it the name.
The family keeps the milk recipe secret. The first floor of the Tenmonkan building is the shirokuma café, refitted in 2015, with 14 kinds on the menu, and a window by the entrance sells a smaller cup to carry.
