Sakuramido

Sakuramido suits riders on the west Izu coast who want Matsuzaki's sakura-leaf mochi made fresh that morning, and the trade-off is stock that can run short by mid-afternoon.
What to order
- Sakura-ba mochi
Matsuzaki grows about 70 percent of Japan's salted cherry leaves, and Sakuramido wraps its Kansai-style domyoji mochi in two of them. Inside goes a half-mashed bean paste of Hokkaido azuki. The shop makes them every day of the year and says to eat the leaf whole from the tip. A 2025 review paid ¥380 for a pack of two, and the online shop sells a box of eight for ¥1,520.
A September 2025 reviewer ate at the shop's tables shortly before 15:00 and was told stock might not stretch to the whole group. They keep three days, unrefrigerated, so buy for the road.
Worth knowing
- Do not chill them; the shop says the mochi hardens in the fridge.
- Two other Matsuzaki confectioners make their own sakura-leaf mochi if you want to compare.
