Karoichi
鳥取港海鮮市場かろいち35°32′ N 134°11′ EMarket
Karoichi suits anyone riding the coast west of Tottori who wants the port's fish at a market counter, and most of its restaurants stop serving at 14:00.
What to order
- Mosa ebi, the sweet local prawn from the trawl boats, raw or grilled
- Matsuba-gani from 6 November
Karoichi stands beside Karo port, where Tottori's boats land their catch, and its stalls sell fish every day from 9:00 to 16:00 except New Year's Day. Several restaurants cook the catch on site. Shijo Ryori Karoko stays open until 18:00, and Wakabayashi and Ikataro serve lunch from 11:00 to 14:00. Ask for mosa ebi, a sweet prawn that does not travel well, so you mostly find it in Tottori.
