Izukyu runs the coast line from Ito to Izukyu-Shimoda, and JR trains from Atami and the Odoriko expresses from Tokyo run through onto it. The cycle train uses the 8000 series locals only. From the timetable revised on 24 April 2026 there are seven southbound runs a day and eight heading north, and a local takes about 79 minutes from Minami-Ito to Shimoda.
You report to the station staff first, because Izukyu books nothing ahead and records each rider's destination. Board at Minami-Ito, Kawana, Jogasaki-kaigan, Izu-Kogen, Izu-Atagawa, Izu-Inatori, Kawazu or Izukyu-Shimoda while the window is open. Six bikes fit per train, three by the crew cab in car 1 and three in car 3.
Coming from Atami or Ito, pack the bike in a rinko bag; Izukyu bars unbagged bikes north of Minami-Ito and on the JR Ito Line, and it will not let you unpack in the car. The adult fare from Ito to Shimoda is ¥1,860 since the revision of 14 March 2026. The east coast is the hilly half of the Izuichi loop and stage 3 of the Pacific Cycling Road, so the train makes a good bail-out.
Worth knowing
- Start a cycle-train trip at Minami-Ito rather than Ito, since Izukyu only accepts unbagged bikes from Minami-Ito southward.
- Avoid the crossed-out dates on Izukyu's calendar, which in 2026 include 10 to 12 October and 21 to 23 November.
- Look at the cycle-train timetable before you ride; trains without a time at your station will not take the bike.
