Toyohashi Railroad, which everyone calls Toyotetsu, runs its Atsumi Line 16 stations from Shin-Toyohashi out to Mikawa-Tahara in about 34 minutes. At weekends every train takes bikes from first to last. On weekdays the window opens with the 10:00 departure and closes after the 14:59, which keeps bikes off the school and commuter trains.
Mikawa-Tahara is the place to start. Ise-wan Ferry puts its Irago terminal about 30 km on from the station, so a rider can roll off the train, follow the peninsula's ocean shore on stage 4 of the Pacific Cycling Road and catch the boat to Toba the same afternoon. Toyotetsu also sells a Toyohashi-Toba discount ticket that bundles the train or bus with the ferry crossing for the rider.
The Atsumi Peninsula Cycle Ticket costs ¥1,200 for an adult and buys a day of train rides, a day of bike carriage and a coupon for the Tahara roadside stations. It only exists as a mobile ticket, so set up the app before you reach the platform.
Worth knowing
- Buy the Atsumi Peninsula Cycle Ticket if you plan two rides in a day; it costs the same as the plain day pass and covers the bike.
- Avoid 17 and 18 October 2026, when the Toyohashi Matsuri closes the cycle train.
- Carry the bike's weight yourself in the car and keep a hand on it when the train brakes.
