Rental bikes and a Biwaichi certificate checkpoint at the station.
Maibara Station is where the Tokaido Shinkansen meets the lines round Lake Biwa, which makes it the fastest way in from Tokyo or Nagoya. The station has a cycle station that stamps the Biwaichi certificate, and the NPO Gokan Seikatsu rents bikes for the loop there. The city writes its name Maihara, while JR's station keeps Maibara.
Hikone and Nagahama, on either side, have far more beds. Omi Haha no Sato roadside station on the shore at Ugano serves Ibuki soba, and inland at Joheiji the Umu farmhouse puts you at the foot of Mt. Ibuki.
