Who should base here
Stay at the resort hotel for ski-in, ski-out mornings and the Hoonji Onsen baths. Families who want restaurants and more choice can stay in Fukui and ride the shuttle.
Katsuyama sits in the Okuetsu basin of eastern Fukui, on the Kuzuryu River that runs out to the Sea of Japan. The Echizen Railway runs from Fukui, which has a Hokuriku Shinkansen station, to Katsuyama Station. From there a free shuttle runs to the ski resort for anyone who books it online, and it also calls at the Dinosaur Museum. Hotel guests get a separate free shuttle from JR Fukui Station.
Drivers reach the resort in about 20 minutes from the Katsuyama interchange on the Chubu Jukan Expressway, about 15 km away. Through the ski season the resort charges ¥1,000 a car each day toward snow clearing, whether or not it has snowed. Fukui eats its soba cold under grated daikon even in midwinter, and the agriculture ministry calls oroshi soba the prefecture's favourite bowl.
Worth knowing
- Book the free shuttle from Katsuyama Station online before you travel; the resort runs it by reservation only.
- Buy lift tickets on the resort's own site before 18 December 2026 for the early-bird price.
