Guest House Maruya

Maruya sits on the Ginza-dori arcade in Ginza-cho, the oldest part of Atami, downhill from the station through the Heiwa-dori arcade. Maruya calls itself the sleeping wing of a plan that treats the whole town as one inn, so the building holds beds, showers, a kitchen and a lounge, and the town supplies the rest. You make your own bed, and staff check you in with a hand-drawn map.
There are 21 rooms in singles, twins and triples, sleeping 30 in all; most are capsules, and each one locks. Three shared showers stock shampoo and body soap. Staff point you to day baths in town such as Yamada-yu, and the beach is three minutes away on foot.
Check in by 21:00 or call ahead, since a late booking with no call gets cancelled. Staff leave at 21:00 and a card key opens the door until 8:00. Children of primary-school age and younger cannot stay.
