The Kurobe Gorge Railway suits families and train lovers who want an open-sided ride up the Kurobe Gorge, and its trade-off is a season that ends on 30 November and a restricted stop at Keyakidaira while repairs continue.

The narrow-gauge line climbs from Unazuki up the Kurobe Gorge to Keyakidaira and carries visitors from spring to late autumn. The January 2024 earthquake damaged the line, and in 2025 and until 30 September 2026 trains turned back at Nekomata. The full run to Keyakidaira came back on 1 October 2026, and repair work continues on Kanetsuri Bridge and the slopes below Keyakidaira station.
In 2026 an adult paid ¥2,480 one way from Unazuki to Keyakidaira and ¥600 more for an enclosed Relax car. At Keyakidaira you may only use the station forecourt, its roof and the visitor centre, and the railway caps the number of passengers getting off. From 1 October the stops are Unazuki, Kuronagi, Kanetsuri and Keyakidaira.
In winter, when the line is closed, the railway runs short tours from Unazuki across the Shin-Yamabiko bridge about 530 m up the line, and the tours also visit the locomotive depot. One version adds snow play and a masu-zushi making class.
