Hiroshima is the practical gateway for this Shimane resort.
Mizuho Highland sits in Ohnan, in the Shimane mountains on the Hiroshima border, with a gondola up to a 1,200 m summit. Its five courses run from the 500 m Naster beginner slope to the 2,600 m Chestnut, and the 1,000 m Rabbit averages 21 degrees. When Chestnut opens, the resort strings it into a 3,700 m run, which it calls the longest in Chugoku and Shikoku.
The resort says the drive from Hiroshima JCT takes 55 minutes to the lift and from Hamada JCT 45 minutes. It has no winter lodging and ran no crèche last season, so plan it as a day trip or stay elsewhere.
Worth knowing
- The Rabbit and Chestnut courses open only with enough snow; check the resort's snow report before you go.
