SPICY is a Hakuba-owned rental chain that has hired out ski gear since 1984, and suits riders who want winter skis and summer mountain bikes from one shop by the Iwatake gondola. A standard ski or snowboard package costs ¥9,000 a day in 2026/27.

SPICY's prices undercut the big international chains a little, with a standard package at ¥9,000 a day and a High Performance set at ¥11,000. Step On boots and bindings rent from the Echoland and Iwatake shops. The Iwatake store stands next to the gondola about 2 km from JR Hakuba Station and is the one that stays open in summer.
From late spring the Iwatake shop turns into a bike base for the MTB Park on the hill above. Full-suspension bikes from Giant and Rocky Mountain rent from ¥12,100 a day. An e-bike costs ¥3,960, which makes it a cheap way to ride the valley roads to the Happo side.

- Helmets are not included with SPICY's bikes, so add one when you pick up.
