The Biwako Takashima Tourism Association runs four desks: JR Makino, JR Omi-Imazu, JR Omi-Takashima and its own office at the Shin-Asahi plaza. From April 2026 a city bike costs ¥1,000 a day, a cross bike ¥2,000 and an e-bike ¥3,000. City bikes can be hired and returned at any desk, which makes a one-way ride along the west shore easy. Every rental runs between 9:00 and 17:00, including multi-day hires.
Makino Station is the start for the Metasequoia avenue. From 14 November to 13 December 2026, through the colour season, its desk takes no bookings and no bikes from other stations. The Imazu and Omi-Takashima desks close for an hour at lunch, from 13:00 to 14:00.
Shirahige Shrine sits about 3 km from Omi-Takashima Station, an easy ride on a city bike. The shrine warns that crossing Route 161 in front of it is very dangerous, so look at the lake gate from the viewing deck beside the shrine office.
