Getting there
In the middle of Matsunoyama Onsen's lane of inns, in the hills on Tokamachi's southern side.
Takanoyu stands in the middle of Matsunoyama Onsen's hot-spring street. The water is a salty sodium-calcium chloride spring, and people count it among the three great medicinal springs of Japan. The prefecture's page says it warms you to the core.
Adults paid ¥600 in 2025. Since July 2025 the bath has opened at 11:00 and closed at 20:00, and it shuts every Thursday.
Worth knowing
- Matsunoyama's salt turns up in other places too: a crêpe stand at Kiyotsu Gorge mixes salt made from this water into its batter.
