The Yuki-no-Otani walk suits sightseers and families who want to stand between snow walls up to 20 m high at Murodo, and its trade-off is Golden Week crowds and winter weather at 2,450 m.
Each winter crews clear the Alpine Route road through the deep snow at Murodo, and the cut leaves walls that the operator says can reach 20 m. For about ten weeks from the mid-April opening, visitors walk a stretch of the road between the walls. In 2026 the walk ran from 15 April to 25 June, 9:30 to 15:00. The walk itself is free, and the Alpine Route fare from Tateyama Station to Murodo was ¥4,090 one way for adults.
The operator suggests late May to late June for kinder weather and fewer people. In April the plateau can still turn to blizzard, so dress for winter even on a sunny morning in Toyama. Crews put their snowplough Tateyama Kumataro on display at Murodo in spring.
