Uzuraya suits a pilgrimage to Togakushi soba at the Chusha shrine, and the soba runs out and the queue builds on weekends.
What to order
- Zaru soba from local flour
- Soba-gaki
- Mixed tempura
Uzuraya stands a minute's walk from the Nakasha-mae bus stop at Togakushi's middle shrine, about an hour and five minutes from Nagano Station on the Kawanakajima Bus Bird Line. Rurubu lists zaru soba from local flour at ¥1,000, soba-gaki from hand-ground flour and mixed tempura at ¥1,200 each, and Miyama-oroshi at ¥1,950. Mapple says the shop stone-grinds local buckwheat in the coldest weeks and freezes it to keep the flavour, and it closes for about three weeks from late November to mid-December. It opens 10:30 to 16:00 and closes earlier when the soba is gone, so come at opening on a weekend.
Worth knowing
- By car it is about 17 km and 30 minutes from the Shinshu-Nagano interchange on Prefectural Route 36.
