Tokuzomaru's original shop suits anyone riding or driving the east Izu coast who wants simmered kinmedai beside the boats that land it, and the trade-off is a no-booking rule at busy times.
What to order
- Kinmedai nitsuke set meal
- Kinmedai sashimi
Tokuzomaru opened on the Inatori harbour front in August 1971, and kinmedai, the red-skinned splendid alfonsino landed along this coast, still anchors the menu. The building has namako-kabe walls of black tile and white plaster, with a fish shop on the ground floor where you wait for a table upstairs. Kinmedai nitsuke, the fish simmered whole in sweet soy, is the dish to order.
Weekday service ends at 16:45, so a late lunch works better than dinner unless it is a weekend. The shop has parking for 40 cars and about ten motorcycles, which makes it one of the easier stops on Route 135 for anyone on two wheels.
Worth knowing
- Recent reviews put the kinmedai set meals around ¥3,200.
- The company runs a second Inatori restaurant, Gyoan, on the main road if this one is full.
